NEXTITE 503 Low Odour/ Low Bloom Thick Viscosity

NEXTITE 503 is a high performance, low odour, low bloom instant adhesive designed for applications where high visual appearance matters. NEXTITE 503 is a medium to high viscosity adhesive allowing for more control and an extended fixture time. It minimises frosting, making it ideal for bonds that require a clean, high-quality finish. The fast cure speed delivers virtually instant bonding on a wide range of materials including plastics, metals and rubbers. With its medium to thick viscosity, NEXTITE 503 allows for controlled, precise application. Its low odour formulation also improves workplace comfort and reduces the need for ventilation.

Product Overview

NEXTITE 503 is a modified cyanoacrylate adhesive designed to be low odour and low bloom for high visual and cosmetic applications. Blooming is the white frosting that appears when using conventional cyanoacrylate adhesives. In many cases this isn’t an issue, but when working with decorative components, painted surfaces or highly sensitive materials where appearance is critical, blooming can compromise the finish and reduce the overall quality appearance of the final product. At the same time, its low odour formulation improves comfort and safety in the workplace, making it suitable for all types of work environments including enclosed and poorly ventilated areas. By minimising bloom and odour NEXTITE 503 ensures clean, professional bonds that maintain structural and aesthetic integrity of the assembly without compromising user comfort.

NEXTITE 503 has a medium to high viscosity of 1100 – 1700 CPS at 25°C, which provides excellent control during application and ensures precise placement of adhesive. Unlike lower viscosity instant adhesives, it does not immediately run or spread out once applied, allowing the user more working control and reducing mess. In addition, due to the thickened formula it offers gap filling of up to 0.20 mm. It also allows an extended fixture time allowing users more time to precisely align parts before fixturing. NEXTITE 503 is highly versatile, bonding quickly and securely to a wide range of materials. It is especially effective on most plastics, metals and rubbers.

NEXTITE SP 901 Polyolefin Primer

NEXTITE SP 901 is a surface primer for making polyolefins and other low surface energy surfaces suitable for bonding with NEXTITE Instant Adhesives. It is suitable to prime the notoriously difficult to bond surfaces such as polyethylene, polypropylene and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). NEXTITE SP 901 works well with all of our cyanoacrylate adhesives especially the faster fixture time ones.

NEXTITE CA-1 Cyanoacrylate Activator

NEXTITE CA-1 can be used in conjunction with NEXTITE Cyanoacrylate Adhesives to promote a faster cure and to extend their gap-filling capabilities. Cyanoacrylate Adhesives naturally have limited gap-filling ability, but the use of an activator helps extend this capability by curing the adhesive almost instantly. Using a cyanoacrylate activator it also enables fillets of cured adhesive to be formed if required and can be used to reduce the effects of blooming, which can affect decorative surfaces. CA-1 is particularly effective when bonding porous materials, as the rapid curing prevents the adhesive from soaking in and ensures a stronger more reliable bond. 

Applications and Uses

NEXTITE 503 has been designed as a low bloom and low odour instant adhesive. It is ideal for industries and tasks that require an instant bond, high strength and an aesthetic finish. It is also ideal for workspaces that have little to no ventilation as it does not compromise user comfort.

Tools and Accessories

The 20g and 50g bottles are specifically designed to work with a variety of nozzles and tips, so users can adapt the application method without the need to transfer the adhesive into another container. The nozzles come in a variety of internal diameters and lengths for all types of applications. They easily press-fit directly onto the tip of the instant adhesive bottle. The benefit of using alternative tips is that it gives users greater control, allowing only a precise amount of adhesive to be dispensed. They also extend the reach of the bottle, making it easier to apply adhesive accurately in tight spaces or detailed applications.

For NEXTITE 503, we recommend either the 0.8mm (Green) or 1.4mm (Dark Green) tips or nozzles.

Technical Highlights

Instructions for use

1.     Ensure all bonding surfaces are clean and free of grease. Use NEXTITE PROPREP or ACRI-BOND CLEANER (for delicate materials) and allow the surfaces to dry completely.

2.     For low surface energy plastics, apply NEXTITE SP 901 Primer to the bonding area. Use sparingly and avoid excess application. Let the primer dry fully. Do not use primer on plastics that are not low surface energy.

3.     If required, NEXTITE CA-1 Activator can be applied. Apply to one bonding surface only. If a primer has been used, do not apply activator to the same area. Allow the activator to dry before proceeding.

4.     Dispense adhesive onto one surface only (never on the surface treated with activator). Assemble the components quickly, as the rapid fixture time provides little chance for repositioning.

5.     To cure excess adhesive or fillets outside the bond line, apply NEXTITE CA-1 Activator by spraying or dropping directly onto the exposed adhesive.

6.     Keep the parts fixed or clamped in position until the adhesive has achieved fixture.

7.     Allow the bond to reach full strength before applying service loads, which typically occurs after 24 to 72 hours depending on the bond line, substrates and environmental conditions. 

Shelf Life, Storage and Pack Size

NEXTITE 503 has an 18 Month Shelf Life when stored correctly.

Store in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight, an enclosed cabinet is recommended, to extend the shelf life of this product. Keep the open container tightly closed do not leave open.
