NEXTITE CA-1 Cyanoacrylate Activator / Accelerator

NEXTITE CA-1 Cyanoacrylate Activator is a fast acting instant adhesive activator used to virtually instantly cure cyanoacrylate adhesives. It can also be used to improve bonding on porous or acidic surfaces, reduce blooming and enable rapid fixturing. It enhances the gap filling capabilities of cyanoacrylate adhesives and allows curing of exposed fillets of adhesive. Available in both aerosol for ease of application or as a bulk liquid for use in high volume applications.

Product Overview

NEXTITE CA-1 Cyanoacrylate Activator / Accelerator is engineered to dramatically accelerate the cure speed of instant adhesives, delivering near-instant bonding on demand. Ideal for production environments and on-site applications, CA-1 enables fast tacking and rapid fixturing, reducing clamp time and increasing efficiency. It is especially effective on porous, acidic or difficult substrates where cyanoacrylates may struggle to initiate cure (not polyolefins like PP, PE or PTFE use NEXTITE SP901 Polyolefin Primer). By promoting a faster reaction, NEXTITE CA-1 also helps reduce blooming, resulting in a cleaner, more professional finish on visible joints. 

NEXTITE CA-1 is highly effective for building and curing fillets as well as extending the gap-filling capability of cyanoacrylate adhesives. Cyanoacrylate adhesives cure best when pressed tightly between two surfaces and can cure slowly or inconsistently when adhesive is exposed or in large gaps, CA-1 overcomes this limitation by forcing a rapid cure even in exposed areas or where parts require gap filling to be mated. While all NEXTITE Instant Adhesives are compatible with CA-,1 standard non-rubber toughened variants typically deliver the best performance. As with all accelerated systems, rapid polymerisation can lead to a reduction in ultimate bond strength, it is important to test on your application before fully implementing into your system.

Applications and Uses

NEXTITE CA-1 Cyanoacrylate Activator used in conjunction with NEXTITE Instant Adhesives has many applications and uses some are listed below.

• Securing wires to coils or PCBs (wire tacking)
• Tamper proofing adjustable components
• Curing beads or fillets of cyanoacrylate
• Tacking together channel letter signage
• Bonding laminate edges or decorative trim
• Mitre bonding
• Reducing bloom in aesthetic applications
• Reducing reliance of clamping parts
• Reconstruct missing material

Instructions for use

Post Activation

1. Make sure surfaces are clean and free from contaminants.
2. Apply Nextite cyanoacrylate adhesive to the part being bonded or fixed.
3. Apply Nextite CA-1 cyanoacrylate activator over all exposed cyanoacrylate adhesive by spray or drop. (Typically use one drop of activator per drop of exposed adhesive)

Surface Activation

1. Make sure surfaces are clean and free from contaminants.
2. Apply a coating of activator to the area to be bonded by spray, brush or dipping.
3. Allow NEXTITE CA-1 to fully evaporate from parts prior to bonding to avoid solvent entrapment within the bond joint.
4. Apply the Nextite Cyanoacrylate Adhesive immediately after drying or within 45 seconds.
5. Activator can be re-applied if necessary if there is a delay of more than 45 seconds between original activator and adhesive application.

Shelf Life and Storage

NEXTITE CA-1 has a 24 Month Shelf Life when stored correctly.

Store in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight, an enclosed cabinet is recommended, to extend the shelf life of this product. Keep the open container tightly closed do not leave open.
