NEXTITE AB422 delivers high toughness and dependable performance when bonding plastics, metals and composites with minimal surface preparation. It provides excellent impact resistance and fatigue endurance with a medium working time of 11-13 minutes, making it ideal for structural and general assembly applications. The thicker viscosity allows for easy, controlled application across a wide range of materials. It is well suited for the transportation and marine industries as NEXTITE AB422 requires virtually no surface preparation and provides consistent overall performance.
Product Overview
NEXTITE AB422 is a high-performance, two-part methyl methacrylate (MMA) structural adhesive engineered for demanding bonding applications. Designed for fast, reliable bonding of engineering plastics, metals, and composite materials, NEXTITE AB422 offers exceptional toughness, fatigue and impact resistance.
With a medium working time of 11 to 13 minutes, this adhesive allows for efficient assembly without the need for extensive surface preparation or primers. It is particularly suited for bonding thermoplastics, powder-coated metals, raw metals (full structural strength with NEXTITE SP120 MMA Metal Primer), and composite assemblies where high strength and impact resistance are critical.
NEXTITE AB422 delivers rapid strength development at room temperature, along with excellent toughness, fatigue resistance, and long-term durability. Its non-sag, thixotropic formula makes it ideal for precise application, even on vertical surfaces. It also provides gap filling capabilities of up to 9mm. This adhesive is the go-to solution for industrial manufacturing, plastic fabrication, transportation, marine, and general assembly where consistent performance and high fatigue resistance are required.
For production environments where faster fixture times are critical, NEXTITE AB420 offers the same performance and material compatibility as NEXTITE AB422 but with a reduced working time of 4 to 6 minutes and a fixture time of 16 to 18 minutes.
For production environments where longer working times are critical, NEXTITE AB425 offers the same performance and material compatibility as NEXTITE AB422 but with an increased working time of 18 to 22 minutes and a fixture time of 48 to 54 minutes.
Applications and Uses
NEXTITE AB422 bonds to a variety of substrates they include but aren’t limited to:
- Plastics: Acrylic (PMMA), Polycarbonate (PC), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
- Metals: Aluminium, Steel, Stainless Steel, Powder Coated Surfaces (with NEXTITE SP120 Metal MMA Primer)
- Composites: Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP), Carbon Fibre (CF)
- Other: Glass
NEXTITE AB422 will not adhere to plastics with a low surface energy such as Polypropylene (PP), Polyethylene (PE) or Polyolefins. These plastics can be structurally adhered to with NEXTITE AB206 and NEXTITE Instant Adhesives also have a great bond when using NEXTITE SP 901 Primer.
Some applications of NEXTITE AB422 include:
- Transport Industry: Used to bond fibreglass (FRP), metal, and composites in vehicles like trucks, buses, trailers, and railcars.
- Marine: Bonds composite hulls, decks, and marine components with strong resistance to moisture and saltwater.
- Construction: Joins panels, facades, and modular building elements where strength and quick curing are critical.
- Signage and Displays: Bonds plastic, metal, and composite parts in signs and displays for indoor and outdoor use.
- Industrial Equipment: Used in machinery and appliance assembly for strong, impact- and vibration-resistant joints.
- Automotive: Bonding structural or cosmetic repair of body panels, including re-bonding fiberglass or composite components.
Versatility of NEXTITE AB422
While bond strength is important, it’s not the only factor to consider when selecting an adhesive. Once fully cured, NEXTITE AB422 delivers a range of additional benefits that can make a real difference depending on your application.
When fully cured NEXTITE AB422 can be sanded, grinded, routed and polished to get your desired finish. You can even paint over it!
- Great Chemical Resistance
- High fatigue and impact resistance
- High resistance to weathering
- Can be used in indoor and outdoor applications
- Waterproofing when applied correctly
- High Temperature resistance -40 to 140°C
Tools and Accessories
NEXTITE AB422 requires the use of a compatible dual cartridge dispensing applicator and static mixer nozzles, sold separately. Both the 50mL and 490mL Cartridges use standard 10:1 Ratio dual cartridge dispensing applicators and static mixers. It is important to use the correct applicator and mixer for each cartridge size, as 10:1 ratio systems are not compatible with other ratios cartridges and accessories. Each cartridge type requires the matching dispensing applicator and static mixer designed specifically for its ratio.

Instructions for use
1.    Use a static mixer nozzle to accurately mix the contents of the 10:1 cartridge. Each cartridge includes one Static Mixer Nozzle Orange 10:1, and you can purchase more in 5, 10 and 50 packs from our store.
2.    You will also require a 10:1 Static Mixing Dispenser to push the contents through the static mixer. This is the best way to apply it and get accurate, dependable results every time.
3.    Parts to be joined should fit without forcing and be clean, it is recommended to use NEXTITE PROPREP prior to applying any product to remove any oils, dust and dirt. It is important to let out any air bubbles and ensure adhesive is fully mixed by dispensing the first part of the cartridge onto some paper. This is to make sure the two separate parts are fully mixed and is generally the first 2-3mL. Apply adhesive directly from the static mixer.
4.    Press parts together in firm contact and use a clamp to secure while the glue reacts. NEXTITE AB422 will achieve a working strength within 28-32 min and full cure strength within 24 hours. You have approximately 11-13 minutes to work with the glue before it starts to set off.
Please check the TDS for material suitability and strength of each bond. For a tutorial how to use please refer to our YouTube Chanel.
